Open a delivery app, search your category, and screenshot the results grid. Zoom out until the tiles are the size of a stamp. That is the size at which most of your packaging actually gets judged.
The shelf moved
Packaging used to be designed for a two-metre approach down a supermarket aisle. For a growing share of D2C brands the first encounter is a small thumbnail surrounded by eleven competitors and a discount badge.
- Design the thumbnail crop before the full artwork
- One dominant colour per variant, no exceptions
- Variant name large enough to read at tile size
- Test against real competitor tiles at actual size
If your pack does not work at 200 pixels, you are paying for a design most of your customers will never really see.
The physical pack still matters. The order changed: thumbnail first, shelf second, unboxing third.
